Ecuador - Hermanos Merino (Lugmapata Anaerobic Washed) (TASTE NOTES ARE ADDED WHEN COFFEE IS RELEASED)
Personal note: This is the second coffee I have roasted of the Merino family’s! This one is special and I am extremely grateful to be able to roast and enjoy this new to me coffee varietal.
Finca Lugmapata is located near the town of Pallatanga in Ecuador’s Chimborazo province. Owned by siblings Enrique Merino and his sister, the farm has earned a strong reputation for producing exceptional coffee, securing multiple top 10 finishes in the Cup of Excellence and taking 1st place in the 2022 competition.
The L1 Lugmapata variety emerged naturally on the farm and is named after it. While its precise genetic makeup remains unclear, its quality has been widely recognized—it earned 6th place in the 2023 Cup of Excellence.
This particular lot underwent a 7-day anaerobic fermentation in whole cherry before being depulped, washed, and dried on raised beds, highlighting the Merino family’s attention to detail and innovation in processing.
